I just rec'd the ab contour belt 1 week ago. I really love it, but not sure if I am using it correclty. I am trying to shed belly fat or inches. I have about a 37"waist. I need to know which resistance program to use to achieve my results and at what intensity? I am currently using Level 5 Resistance at 24%. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The intensity (power) of the electro-current determines the amount of muscle fibers stimulated. With a low intensity setting few muscle fibers are worked, as you increase the intensity the amount of muscle fibers worked also increases. Bottom line... the more muscle fibers worked the more effective your Contour workout sessions will be.

That said, if you’ve never used the Contour™ electromuscle stimulator before, you should start with a few sessions using the Resistance
program at Level 1, with an intensity level of 15-20. Once you familiarize yourself with the sensation and technique of electromuscle stimulation you can start your first workout session. An intensity level of 20-30 is a good range to begin your training, until your body adapts to this type of exercise, at this level you should notice very satisfying contractions.

What’s Your contour index™?
The highest intensity level you can achieve and sustain without discomfort (while using your Contour™ electromuscle stimulator) is called your contour index™ (ci).

Two key things help you determine your contour index; the excitability of your nerves located just below the surface
of your skin and your sensitivity to electromuscle stimulation.
Everyone’s body is a little different. If you are sensitive or ticklish you may have a lower contour index than someone not as sensitive in those body areas.

Challenge Yourself!
Remember, as you train, the intensity level you can tolerate will
increase, therefore your ci will go up as your get firmer and stronger
muscles. Continue to challenge yourself by increasing the intensity levels to make your workout sessions as effective as possible.

There are 5 levels of resistance. The higher the level the higher the frequency. Contraction frequency is the number of times a pulse is repeated per second. It is expressed in hertz (Hz). A frequency of 50 Hz means that the pulse is repeated 50 times every second and that, accordingly, the muscle fibers twitch 10 times every second.

For abs you can use any level you would like. For best results it is the intensity of the contraction that will determine your results.

I am frustrated because I am anxious to use this device. I set it all up per instructions but it would not go on. Now I cannot seem to remove the belt clip to get to the batteries so that I can reinstall them. I don't want to force the clip but I may have to. Please advise what the trick is to removing the belt clasp.

I am also frustrated with the difficulty of removing the belt clip.  I need to replace the batteries and I cannot get this thing out for the life of me.

Other than the belt clip issue, I love this unit and am having a good deal of success with it.  EXCEPT for the clip, I wouldn't change a thing.

But until I get the batteries replaced, I am at a standstill and cannot use the unit for any additional workouts.  I will lose what I worked for so far.

Hi guys,

I read your posts just browsing through the forums here... i'm a new user of the belt too.

Noticed you were having problems with the battery clip - go to the contourtv video pages:

http://www.thecontour.com/Home/Fitness/ContourTV/tabid/102/Default.aspx

the very first video shows how the clip comes off.

Hope this helps!

just tried taking the clip off... the video isnt exactly clear - the clip that she pulls up is the small one on the clip itself, in the middle, kind of a tongued shaped thing.  you'll need nails or a butter knife to get to it, but once you have something that fits under there its easy to pull the clip down towards the bottom of the unit.

If the Resistance training program works the abs - what are the other training programs (i.e. Strength, Explosive Strength, etc) used for. In the Use and Care Manual, what is the "Work Table" on page 26 all about?
