When it comes to protein, there are a lot of choices: whey, whey isolate, casein, soy, and protein blends.
Why Whey?
Whey protein is a by-product in the manufacturing of cheese. The creation of cheese requires first "curding" the milk by coagulating its casein protein. The thinner substance left behind in this process is whey. The whey can then be filtered to remove lactose, fat, and cholesterol. This naturally calls for a very small filter...or "micro-filter." Obviously, the smaller the filter, the more of the things other than the protein will be separated from the whey - thus, making the whey more "pure."
Whey is recognized for its excellent amino acid profile, high cysteine content, rapid digestion, and variety of peptides.
Whey Concentrate Versus Whey Isolate:
There are 2 major types of whey protein, whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. Whey protein concentrate is low in fat, has a high biological value and is typically about 75% pure protein by weight. Whey protein isolate is whey in its purest form. Isolates are processed to remove fat and lactose. Whey protein isolate is about 90%+ pure protein by weight.
Why Cold-Filtered Microfiltration?
Depending on the filtration process, whey protein can either retain or lose its undenatured state, and if lost, whey protein loses much of its bioavailability in the body.
Our premium manufacturing process consists of low temperature microfiltration*, ensuring that the whey protein retains all of its bioavailability, allowing for optimal absorption in the body, while yielding the ideal whey protein necessary to benefit fully from whey protein supplementation.
* Microfiltration filters the whey protein fractions through microscopic membranes, removing most of the fat, lactose, and cholesterol.

For many years as a professional football player, I tried to give my body the best quality nutrients that I possibly could. My philosophy was pretty simple, I wanted to perform at the highest level that I possibly could. This meant putting the best quality nutrition into my body that was available on the market. Let's face it; the all important branch chain amino acids are present in good protein foods. A plate of steak and eggs is high in BCAA's, but it's not always convenient, economical, or easily digestible.
That's why when I developed a whey protein for Contour I spared no expense in the refinement process. I knew that an isolate was my first choice, and it needed to have the best filtration scientifically available. The result is LIFEPRO Cold-Filtered Whey Isolate Protein.
